The Theme of Lamentation

The theme of the Deposition is presented here in a series of works: from the Vesperbild created in Germany in 1300 to the Renaissance sculpture by the Master of Rimini, from the paintings by Giovanni Bellini, Vittore Carpaccio and Cosmé Tura to the plaster cast of the Lamentation by Michelangelo Buonarroti shown in St. Peter’s.
