From the first prototype in 1905 designed by Joseph Barter, they soon moved on to producing the engine with two cylinders longitudinally opposed that characterized Douglas production for many years.It was a highly appreciated motorcycle for the almost total absence of vibrations that the boxer engine design guaranteed.Douglas ceased operations in 1957.
