Milan

The Lombard capital has an artistic heritage of great importance. The Basilica of Sant’Ambrogio is the greatest example of Lombard Romanesque architecture and one of the oldest monuments of Christian art. The Certosa di Garegnano preserves frescoes by Simone Peterzano, the master of Caravaggio. Villa Arconati, or the Castellazzo, is one of the historic buildings of the Groane Park and preserves numerous frescoed rooms. The frescoes in the ballroom are particularly interesting: the Chariot of the Sun, the Fall of Phaeton, the Allegory of Time. These paintings of mythological scenes, framed by trompe l'oeil architecture, are the result of the work of the Galliari brothers.

Civic Archaeological Museum: cup of the precious "treasure of Lovere", found in a tomb in Lovere near Bergamo in 1907 and probably to be dated to the third century AD. . The cup, in silver, is embossed and has a central round engraved. The beautiful external frieze takes up a marshy landscape with marine animals, fishing tools, shells, waders around the central circle that encloses a fisherman, sitting on an arched pier with a basket next to it. The motifs belong to the figurative repertoire of the late Hellenistic tradition.
