Montefalco

The vineyards surrounding Montefalco produce Sagrantino, a highly appreciated red wine. One of the most important wineries in the area is that of Arnaldo Caprai. In the historic centre of Montefalco, the ST. Francis Museum Complex houses a collection of Renaissance painting masterpieces from the 1400s and 1500s. In the picture gallery, the Crucifixion with St. Francis of Assisi by Niccolò Liberatore known as the Student, the Madonna enthroned. with Child among Saints by Francesco Melanzio. In the Church of St. Francis the pictorial decoration includes works by Benozzo Gozzoli and Perugino. The archaeological section also houses masterpieces as the marble statue of Hercules from the church of St. Augustin.
