Genoa, Duomo (St. Lawrence Cathedral),St. St. John the Baptist Chapel: "The Ark of the relics of St. St. John the Baptist - detail of Herodias receiving the head of St. John the Baptist and Salome's dance" (ca. 1217-1225) by the Master of the Ark of the Baptist (France, first half of the 13th century). The Ark has the form of a religious building and is designed so that it can be raised to allow the vision of the silver shrine visible from the central hole. This shrine is believed to contain the ashes of the saint, brought to Genoa in 1098.
